Another 12 hrs or so before the roads start to get busy, with parents bringing their kids to their first day of school for the new year. For many, it would represent a new beginning in what they learn, for some, it may come as another day of hope.
It's a wonder, that after years of strife in Aceh province, that peace has been bilaterally agreed upon. Never in such dire circumstances had a truce been announced, as both parties decided to work hand in hand, for once, on searching for the dead, tending to the wounded, and helping those who managed to cling on barely another new lease of life.
The same goes for Sri Lanka, an island ravaged by years of war. It's people are suffering, but the war goes on. In my opinion, it's a pointless war, one which saps the govt budget and prevents investors from investing in the island. And with the disaster, the govt is literally holding up its hands in saying that they do not have the resources to deal with such a disaster.
A war provoked by a differing in ideologies certainly loses out to that of natural disaster. Mother Earth, at its disastrous best, had managed to create peace, even if it's for the time being. To me, this is a signal that Mother Nature still has a rein over our mortal foolishness in finding wars, in killing people, over some ideologies.
It definitely seems pitiful, yet reassuring that a disaster of such scale could quell months of fighting. Powerful, isnt it?
150,000 people. Where would their souls rest?
Like End of Days had said aptly, when there is no more room in Hell, the dead will walk on Earth.
