Down...but not OUT!

Bad news: Officially down with chicken pox, out with a week of MC for now, depends on situation come next Monday. Which means, I can't take my FNA2002 test this coming Friday. Ugh. How disappointing. Cannot run, cannot go out, life just dulled.

Good news: I get to accompany my mum at home (READ: Enforced stay-at-home-disease) and I get to read up more, revise and of course...Sleep!

I've never had such a long stay at home since I joined Rovers already...when it is school term, you go to school everyday, and return home in the evenings/nights, then it is back out to school again. Saturdays and Sundays? With friends and maybe family...but it does not beat a week at home! o.O"

Holidays consisted of just going out for treks, movies and trying to jio friends for more activities. And that's how life went...uh-huh.

And time for revision + sleep too....din realise how much I missed these 2...^_^

I'll be back!

Singapore Dualthon

Completely in a shagged out mood now, and with Enping's news that he has confirmed gotten chicken pox, I was more sian...'Cos I might have gotten it from him already.

P.S. Spots on body tells much huh?

Just returned from Singapore Dualthon, held at ECP F2 Carpark, which basically is a run-bike-run routine. Seems pretty easy, but I was tired out even before the run started. The event commenced at 8am for the kids juniors and 9.30am for my wave, which was about 300 strong, of ages 19-39. Pretty large group huh? In fact, age does not help muchm most importantly is the bike one uses, and the training time involved. For me, I had neither.

Why? Just returned from night cycling last Sunday feeling super shacked, Mon-Tues was my Datuk trip, and I managed to do a lil' bit of cycling on Wed (en route to get my goodies and stuff for the race) and on Friday (on Enping's road bike after he had been forced to pull out due to administrative issues).

So I was just under-conditioned, for the biking part at least. Never mind, I had hoped that my physical fitness would overcome that, since biking is just...biking?

I was so so so WRONG.

First I cycled from home down to ECP due to lack of vehicular transport to transport my bike down to ECP. Now, I regret the decision made then. I had thought that taxis could not fit the bike in, so I've dismissed the idea of puttting the bike in the boot of the taxi, and taking a nice ride down.

Next, on starting my run, I felt a little tired. I did not know why, but the tiredness came from my legs. Then I realised that because I had biked down about 10km (or more, considering from TPY), I would have used up much of my energy and my muscles are more than warmed-up. They were tired, and it was an omnimous sign. Completed my 10km in 1:20, which was pretty bad, and I knew that I would be having cramps soon.

And it did. Happened in my biking leg, after the first round. Was nearing the transition exit area, full of bikes coming out on the left, and overtaking speedsters on the right. A person behind me shouted, "Keep left!" But I was already sandwiched between him and another 2 guys coming out from my left. In trying to pull apart from the pack, I strained my muscles, and stopped at the pavement.

Both calves were tight and strained. I was just cursing under my breath of what that guy had done. Geez.

Tried to stretch, but it was futile, till one of the uncles from the Triathlon Association came over and told me how to stretch, and to use a lower gear. My rationale for using the higher gear now is to chase the lead pack (or maintain at least) and handle the distance and speed first.

Recovered to continue cycling, but half-way through the 2nd lap, felt my thigh muscles cramping, and the calf muscles cannot make it also. Rested at the sides for about 5 minutes or so, stretched and rested, and mounted the bike again to try to chase.

The thing about biking is that, once you're left behind, it is very difficult for you to chase back up. Especially with the low gears I am using due to my calf strains. Managed to clear the 3rd and 4th laps with no problems, and returned to the transition area with energy exhausted, and to face another 5km of run.

And the last 5km was probably the worse run in my whole life. I started off with bad cramps on both my thighs and calves, and had to walk and stretch for 100m. By the time I had started a little jogging, I had reached the Bedok Jetty.

Then, the inevitable happened. Both my calves, afer being strained for some time, just decided to give up together, rendering me helpless, on the ground, trying to stretch. The right thigh muscle also fully tightened up, and the pain was excrutiating.

Luckily enough, I had passed by some of my fellow sgRunners people, and xuanjing helped me to stretch my fully tightened muscles. After about a minute or so of stretching, I'm hobbling, and soon enough the tightened muscle loosened and I could jog already.

All along the 5km route, I was in quite a pain for both legs, and I just wished I had been in better condition. Sighz. Shall learn from the mistake this time round. Finally, managed to end (ran in!) and I think the timing was about 3 hours. Not bad for a newbie?

Later, collected my t-shirt and winners medal, met up with fellow sgRunners dualathletes such as Ben and James. My legs had already been rendered useless and completely tired out already. Lucky enough, Ben was driving, and I had a nice lift to Enping's place, where I returned him his bike, got the news at the same time, saw his pox-es, and returned home...

And now I'm lying on my bed typing all these admist 2 almost-dying legs, 1 abrasion and a near-concussed Shiyao. Haha.

The state of tiredness

Have you ever woken up feeling groggy and wishing you had more sleep, even though you already had 8 hours of decent sleep?

Have you ever went running and feeling tired barely 10 mins into the run?

Have you ever felt back aches and muscle aches all over?

Have you ever had a tinge of feeling exhausted and wishing you had more time to rest and catch up on a lotta things which you had wanted to do?

I'm experiencing them all now. Sighz. And what Kossy told me before, about wanting to do everything, to have a busy life, and to do well in all I do, is finally taking its toll (I think?)

Dualthon is just 2 days away, and today's biking on Enping's racer helped to calm my nerves, knowing that with the same energy, I could travel further, and most importantly, faster.

But the run after that felt totally off. Could not get my rhythm in check. Mental fatigue? Exhausted? I'm unsure.

Just knew that once I'm on buses, I'm prone to immediately falling asleep.

And I'm not embarrassed to say that I've passed my stop multiple times already. Imagine you wake up and realise you're in the terminal, totally missing your stop by 30 mins.

Just gimme more hours, com'on, I need 48 hours a day...

And the cold winds blow...

When the cold winds blow...
I know I know,
You have to go...

And you have to go down...Gunung Datuk!

The star of this weel: A revisit trip up north to Malaysia, Negri Sembilan, to Gunung Datuk, riding on the back of a tough Bike-2-Bite ride. This trek is considered short, but tough, due to the endless flight of 'stairs' one has to 'climb' en route to the summit.

Nonetheless, the view up there is certainly worth it, and the experience one gets is almost similar to what you would experience should you be camping on mountain ranges in Nepal (but not the altitude!)

First up, realised that the Malay language should be one of the first lessons in ROV1101C, as my inadequacy in the language was exposed during the buying of tickets for the return trip.

Next, the ranger was not around before our trek started! Which was good, anyway, since we could go up immediately, and hope that he does not see us and we can scoot away for free, haha!

The weather was fine, company was great, and off we went up the hills of Datuk (again). This time, the original trio from 26th were back in business (Tianqi, Peiyu & Me), with Laiyee and Meena coming along to learn the route. Zhihan was also around, together with the other participants Andreas, Andy, Pei Geok, Shu Ying, Tze Hwee, Mei Yin and Jocelyn.

Trip up was rather uneventful, and the speed was just as expected due to the numerous steps required to scale the mountain. When we finally reached, I heaved a sigh of relief and unbuckled my heavy load and just sat on the nearest rock I could find, resting my legs and catching my breath. The load this time round was slightly heavier than before, probably due to the addition of the tent poles and canned food.

While the tents were being set up, I brought Meena, LY and ZH down to the water point to collect water, and I realised that it was rather tiring for the 2 ladies. Managed to fill up 7 bottles and headed up to see the sunset in time.

After spending great time up at the summit, it was time to descend and satisfy the stomach, all empty due to the vigorous trek just hours before. The menu read:

Starters: Tom Yam Soup
Main Course(s): Pineapple Rice, Rosti, Chicken "Ramly" Burger, Noodles (with almost anything), Omelette (w/ mushrooms & sausages)
Desert: Nata De Coco/Aloe Vera

The chicken burger was a test for me and TQ, to evaluate the possibility of having chicken burgers upon treks. Apart from the lousy meat patties and lack of lettuces and fresh vegs to 'spice' the burger, I must say that it was a great idea to do such burgers up on treks. The most important thing: Time and a good cooler bag with nice to ensure that the meat do not defrost.

As we ate, the winds just got stronger and stronger. One of the tents started moving, and 5 of us entered the tent in an attempt to prevent it from moving further from its original position. Most importantly, the weather grew colder and colder too.

But the stars provided respite in the cold. Huddling together in windbreakers/jackets/sleeping bags, gazing up together....simply awesome!

Good food, good company, good time spent together.

Not to forget the endless associations of someone's hair with curls and maggi mees, as well as a collapsed tent (with 1 broken pole on one side) on 4 people (or would you consider as 5 people?)

And to think that one can watch stars, lying down, without being in the cold! The collapsed tent just served as a makeshift sleeping bag for us.

Who can also forget the next day, when the hut just collapsed with the entry of one more lady onto the raised platform, making it look like that below:

(Let's hope they repair it by the next time we go up. Haha)

Descended the next day, had a great shower, and scooted to KFC for a nice (small) meal. Basically, all their meal portions are smaller than that sold in Singapore, especially the burgers. In that sense, it ain't worth paying for KFC in M'sia. (Pizza Hut previously was a better choice, at least one is fulling.)

Simply great time spent...more trips together guys and gers?

Happy Valentine's Day!

To all my friends and loyal blog supporters: Happy Valentine's Day!

And to my Eups jie: Happy (belated) Birthday! (Owing to a time-zone difference I hope I'm just in time haha.

Okie, so Valentine's Day has come and passed...A great day, a great outing and lots of happy smiles from 幸福 girls, who got their stalk(s) of roses tulips and blended into the crowd of rose-totting and present-overflowing ladies.

This is so evident by the numerous booths you see in school selling V-day gifts, roses and presents for your loved ones (and friends of course!) From Science to Engineering to Arts and to the Forum, we see little booths all selling their different bouquets of flowers, both for those who had placed orders in advance, as well as those last-minute shoppers (who I bet have not realised V-Day is already here till they see the calender and the truth hits them hard in the groin. Or maybe just not the groin area only.)

Anyway, the day started off brightly, and the night was great. Tired souls and bodies due to fatigue from relentless early morning 8am lectures certainly took its toll, and I guess we're all reeling from the backlash. So sleep well yea? Haha.

Hope you guys like the presents!

Fireworks...simply...AMAZING

Nothing can just describe what I've witnessed today.

A beautiful array of bright sparks lighting up the night sky downtown, with different hues of colours and various shapes and 'sizes' portraying different meanings.

Gasps sounded with the blooming of the red heart-shaped fireworks. Simply wonderful, and beyond words.

Too bad, did not bring a camera there, but the most important thing is to be in the right company

Here are some of the previous fireworks, enjoy~

Surf N Sweat!

Wad a day! A day spent under the hot sun, running at 1pm in the hot afternoon sun, sure helps in getting a tan (or did I NOT get one. Geez).

Early morning, met up with Kossy, Kym, Steph, Matthew and Kym's bf *ahem* for makan at Harbourfront MRT...din eat much, cos I grabbed some bread before leaving home.

I was paired with Kossy for the Mixed Open category, with her surfing and me running. Best combo, how about that? Haha.

Basically I just din feel like running in the hot afternoon sun. Totally draining and dehydrating. But I thought "Less than 5km, should be okay..."

I was so wrong.

When I started the run, I was already feeling shacked and just refused to move my limbs fast enough. Basically a jog pace. And looking ahead I see the guy runners all pushing forth, increasing the distance between us with each second.

Gritted my teeth and told myself that I can do it, I started to pace myself. The hot weather was affecting me a little, plus the empty stomach meant that I was sorta running on reserve energy.

When I hit the winding uphill in the forest, I was telling myself "OMG, why am I subjecting myself to this torture? It's disastrous!" Basically, for those who do not know, the slope was just going up and up without any sign of stopping. Pretty bad, I must say. I keep losing sight of the front runners, and I panted and heaved my way up.

And after that, it was much more smooth sailing already. Soon, we hit back to the beach and it's back to the endpoint. Which was good, definitely.

Totally famished at that point in time, and we went to wash up. Not knowing the change in routes for the Blue Line due to the activation of the new 'Interchange' between Sunset and Palawan Beach, we ended up waiting for the Blue Line, going 1 big round to the Underwater World, before reaching the terminal stop to board the bus to the mainland.

By then, Kossy and Kym were like seriously late for their canoe-polo reunion dinner. And still have to go over to Bishan to grab some stuff for the steamboat.

So we all went up to Bishan (where I managed to grab some food, FINALLY!) and spent time shopping in NTUC. Left shortly after, and went home to put down my stuff, soak my dirty (and wet) clothes into the water, and went out again, this time with my camera equipment.

The sunset at MacRitchie and the fireworks at the Esplanade area were simply amazing. And nice too! I had a field day trying to frame the shots carefully, hopefully it comes out well. Hehs.

And time spent was great too. The rain did not dampen spirits, and it was definitely great night spent! Oh yea! Hehe...

Tonight, Chelsea vs Liverpool. Let's just hope Chelsea loses.

And, homework time. Sighz.

Love Personality Test

Seems like all the rage. So here goes nothing. Haha.

From: http://web.tickle.com/invite?test=3040&type=t

My Love Type:

About 2-3% of the U.S. population possesses the combination of traits that make up this personality type.
Oh REALLY?

As an INFJ, people who appreciate high quality will usually notice you.
Hopefully? This I dunno...

Intuition and emotion are your type's strong suits. As a result, your sensitivity and adept communication skills can almost immediately put people at ease. You aren't the kind to overwhelm people with senseless babble. You'll usually prefer to be a good listener. Those around you can often sense this integrity. They may even implicitly know that they can trust you without you having to say a word. Chances are that your insights have helped any number of people during their time of need.
I dunno about this man...Am I like that, seems true, 'cept the babble and listener thing....Hmmm...Maybe it's cos it's all inate ;)

In relationships, your warm personality helps you to quickly forge deep personal bonds with others. Easygoing and harmonious, you tend to dislike petty arguments and are usually very forgiving of minor transgressions.
YES. I dun like arguments...Well, some of you would understand THAT.

But people would quickly find out how wrong they were if they mistook you as a doormat. INFJs like you have a strong sense of who you are. You likely also know what kinds of things are important to you in life and relationships.
This is so true.

These staunchly held values can make you appear stubborn at times.
Okay, I am. I admit it. (I'm not perfect, after all)

But on the other hand, they may also be well appreciated by someone who treasures your fine qualities. After all, being true to yourself is almost always a good thing.

What makes you a good partner and friend?

- You are comfortable with who you are
- You know how to put people at ease in stressful situations
- You can be attentive and encouraging
- You're one who is committed to achieving your goals

So now that you know about your personality and the many special qualities that you possess, it's time to learn which other types you're most compatible with in life and love. You'll also find out why those types are more suited for you than the others. Ready to find out who you connect with best?

Your most compatible types
Because you're an Intuitive Feeler (NF), you possess the kind of emotional intelligence that helps you be compassionate and understanding of people's needs. Not only are NFs like you known for having great people skills, but your type can also be quite adept at big picture thinking and creativity. Because of this mix of traits, you typically appreciate those who are supportive and practical. As a result, you're most compatible with Sensing Feelers (SFs). SFs are apt to be emotionally involved in your relationship and can also often help you to achieve your goals. As an NF, juggling several projects at once can be natural for you. However sometimes you may have trouble completing them. Having an SF at your side can help keep you on track, because they're usually detail-oriented and great cheerleaders. An NF/SF pairing often results in a caring, tuned-in relationship. There are four NF/SF matches for you: ESFJ, ISFJ, ESFP, ISFP.

That means you are more Introverted than Extroverted, Intuitive than Sensing, Feeling than Thinking, and more Judging than Perceiving.

Woah...Some parts true, others...well...maybe U can judge for yourself? ;)
