Yup, that's the latest "in" thing I've heard today. That brokeback mountain has brought widespread mention to the gay community everywhere.
The latest term to be added into the dictionary of gays...the word "Brokeback" has been so widely in use recently, you can see it used more widely than the word "flex" or "camp" (to know these terms please google it yourself. I'm not gay so I would not even know what they mean. Just read the newspapers lah).
For example, to indicate breakfast for gays, one gay will ask the other, "Have you had your brokefast yet?"
Or, in the recent events that unfolded, a drug raid was conducted in the Bukit Brokeback area.
With such creative and extensive use of the new terminology, it's a wonder why the movie never won acclaim for "Best Influence in the Culture of Gays".
A football club was also rumoured to be set up with the name FC Brokeback, and it's crest bears the Barcelona crest with a cowboy hat. Rumour has it that there seems to be a certain criteria to achieve prior to playing for the club.
Ever wondered why Broken Arrow was such a disaster, while Brokeback was a success? 'Cos Travolta and Slater ain't gay enough. 'Nuff said.
The last information I heard, was that there was a sizeable increase of calls for visits to Brokeback Mountain following the acclaims it the movie got in the Oscars. Now, that's something.

The 1st Affair
A married man was having an affair with his secretary. One day they went to her place and made love all afternoon.

"Where have you been?" his wife demanded.

The 2nd Affair
A middle-aged couple had two beautiful daughters but always talked about having a son. They decided to try one last time for the son they always wanted.
The wife got pregnant and delivered a healthy baby boy. The joyful father rushed to the nursery to see his new son. He was horrified at the ugliest child he had ever seen.
He told his wife: "There's no way I can be the father of this baby. Look at the two beautiful daughters I fathered! Have you been fooling around behind my back?" The wife smiled sweetly and replied: "Not this time!"
The 3rd Affair
A mortician was working late one night.
He examined the body of Mr. Schwartz, about to be cremated, and made a startling discovery. Schwartz had the largest private part he had ever seen!
"I'm sorry Mr. Schwartz," the mortician commented, "I can't allow you to be cremated with such an impressive private part. It must be saved for posterity."
So, he removed it, stuffed it into his briefcase, and took it home.
"I have something to show you won't believe," he said to his wife, opening his briefcase.
"My God!" the wife exclaimed, "Schwartz is dead!"
The 4th Affair
A woman was in bed with her lover when she heard her husband opening the front door.
"Hurry," she said, "stand in the corner."
She rubbed baby oil all over him, then dusted him with talcum powder. "Don't move until I tell you," she said, " pretend you're a statue."
"What's this?" the husband inquired as he entered the room.
"Oh it's a statue," she replied, "the Smiths bought one and I liked it so I got one for us, too."
No more was said, not even when they went to bed. Around 2 AM the husband got up, went to the kitchen and returned with a sandwich and a beer.
"Here," he said to the statue, have this. I stood like that for two days at the Smiths and nobody offered me a damned thing."
The 5th Affair
A man walked into a cafe, went to the bar and ordered a beer.
"Certainly, Sir , that'll be one cent."
"One Cent?" the man exclaimed. He glanced at the menu and asked: "How much for a nice juicy steak and a bottle of wine?"
"A nickel," the barman replied.
"A nickel?" exclaimed the man.
"Where's the guy who owns this place?"
The bartender replied: "Upstairs, with my wife."
The man asked: "What's he doing upstairs with your wife?"
The bartender replied: "The same thing I'm doing to his business down here."

Jake was dying. His wife sat at the bedside.

The 'stars' of Real Madrid simply captiulated under their own 'stardom' and lost to a more hardworking and composed Arsenal side.
Despite missing like 6 chances on goals (including one which was heading towards an open goal-mouth on 89 minutes 'cos Casillas went forward to join in the attack for a corner), Arsenal held on to their slim away goal advantage and managed to get into the next round!
Real Madrid's on the decline. Who says that a team of stars can waltz their way into the Champs League? Barcelona is more likely to be in the finals after their comphrensive victory over Chelsea. Milan most likely to join them. If not, it would be the high-flying Juventus. Spanish leaders vs Italian leaders. Wow, what a fight!
Heard that Liverpool's on it's way out after falling behind to a Simao goal in the first half. Whatever, one an English club made it through, and it's neither Chelsea nor Man Utd, I'm happy.

Bad news: 3 tests in 7 days, how to cope? Plus I need to do make-up CM lab. Sheesh. More time taken up.

Barcelona drew with Chelsea at Nou Camp (home ground) after winning 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, to go into the next round of the Champions League on a 3-2 aggregate.
By far, Barcelona dominated proceedings in the return leg, despite missing Messi (who got replaced after tackled by Robben for a loose ball), they looked dangerous on the attack all the time.
Could have been 2-1, but whatever. What matters is not the scoreline, but that big-mouthed Moan-rinho gets shut up and face the stark reality that his side ain't the best in the world.
What's the use of so much money splashing out on players who can win the Premiership but not pose a strong challenge to the likes of other established continental clubs such as Barcelona?
I would wonder what would be the score-line should they come up against the likes of Bayern, Milan, Real Madrid, amongst others. (My fantasy: Have all these great clubs play against each other in the group stage. NOW, that's where they will show their true power (or the lack of).)
Well, gonna sleep on the win now. Damn happy. The better club, wins after all. Revenge is so sweet ;)

Phew...In 3 hours, after the lab is open to all...given 48 hours to do, with the freedom of pair programming, and no marks given! So why did I pia through the night for this programming lab?
Guess I've no answer to that. Probably 'cos I see people's nick with "Lab Starts Now" and I just got a reminder that, "Hey! It's Wednesday already!"
And that was barely 5 minutes past midnight.
Now I'm tired, but triumphant. Finally managed to get something decent done. Guess I need to get myself busy, with deadlines hanging like timebombs tick-tocking around me, would I be able to summon all my might and energies to finish every single thing.

Oh yea...the 78th Annual Academy Awards, LIVE, on TV now. An award ceremy with the glitzy and glamour, with the star studded actors and actresses present together.
And the host of the night, Jon Steward, remarked that the presenters are in the order of how good they are. Wahahahahaha!!!!

First up, Nicole Kidman presenting the award for Best Supporting Actor to George Clooney. And what a cracking acceptance speech he gave on actors and their different roles, and to just have ALL put on Bat-suits to compare each other on a level playing field (for the uninitiated, it's about him and his movie "Batman").
Talking about acceptance speeches, the producers are always worried of over-running. Sure-fire way to keep the speech length to a minimum? Clue in a video of Tom Hanks giving a demo of the 'correct' type of acceptance speech was indeed comical o_O (seeing him kenna surrounded by a music band, and whacked by a guitar (awww....what a waste of a nice guitar).
And Ben Stiller is forever funny. In a green unitard (ya I take the term straight from them) presenting the award for Best Visual Effects, claiming himself to be 'invisible'. King Kong won the animals of Narnia and the aliens of War of the Worlds.
Resse Witherspoon is next for presenting Best Animated Feature. Howl's Moving Castle (I hope this wins!) versus Tim Burton's Corpse Bride (This is nice :p) versus Wallace & Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit (Funny as usual). In the end, Wallace & Gromit wins! Finally, a nice one...and the producers have bow-ties! o_O And the most funny thing is that...they attached mini-bow-ties to their Oscar trophies! o_O"
Best Live Action Short Film is presented by Luke & Owen Wilson, brothers who first started out with the making of a short film themselves. Aureisser vs Cashback vs Sidasti Bærinn vs Our Time Is Up vs Six Shooter (the final winner!)
And they bring along Chicken Little and Goosey Loosey, who comments that ducks never get the pants o_O" (see Donald Duck?) And Chicken Little...takes off his pants in front of the the audience. And uses the Oscar envelope to fold into his replacement *err* shorts (like what he did in the movie)
Jennifer Aniston presents Best Costume Design, which goes to Memoirs of a Geisha. And there is a short film in dedication to the actors and actresses who potray real-life figures. Best makeup sees the makeup crew of Chronicles of Narnia pit against Cinderella Man and Star Wars III. In the end, the makeup crew of Chronicles of Narnia came out triumphant.
Steward remarked that "If all (actors and actresses) came together to pull the Oscar statue down, would there be democracy in Hollywood?" o_O
Best Supporting Actress went to Rachel Weisz for her role in The Constant Gardener.
Actress in a Leading role is hilarious. A short clip showing the 5 nominees, what LA would be seeing on their tee vees... Felicity Huffman, acting haggard, the standard look(?). Acting while Beautiful, Kiera Knightley, acting with Gold Dust on her cheeks (o_O). Resse Witherspoon is a person who might be hired for gardening(?) o_O and Judi Dench, paid for by the organisation of Dames o_O" (Great this is getting lame, I cant type as fast as they present).
Charlize Theron is hot! o_O" OMG I'm sweltering.
The Best Documentary goes to March of the Penguins, which is made by a group of French producers, hugging penguin stuffed toys (I wan!) to receive the award.

Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves come together again (remember Speed 1 and 2?) to present Best Art Direction. Art Direction is important in bringing forth art sketches to the blue screen. John Mayer wins for Memoirs of a Geisha (which I think is a vividly well-done film).
Salma Hayek is now an actress-producer? Wow. I didn't know that. And a wonderful piece of music from the Oscar band!!!! Oh mans, I'd just gotta have the soundtrack. They played the original scores for the different Oscar nominated movies! Gustavo Santaolalla won the Best Music Score for his piece in Brokeback Mountain (aww man...I just love instrumentals....so nice!)

An Extraordinary Oscar (Honorary Academy Award) is given to director-producer-writer Robert Altman.
Best Music goes to "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" from Hustle & Flow. Quite a funky lil' music tune. Haha. Presented by Queen Latifah, no less. And Jon Steward had to say that it's getting easier for a pimp now o_O And definitely the most exciting people of the night!
And Jennifer Garner (another hot babe!) nearly tripped on coming out to present the award (too bad, she recovered almost immediately, must be 'cos she does her own stunts.... o_O" So dudes, looking for a quick glance down the nice dress she wore? Nah...no chance!) King Kong won Best Sound Editing eventually, against War of the Worlds and Memoirs of a Geisha. I have a feeling that the award did not go to WotW 'cos of the 'simple sound amplitude' mixing required for a 40db voice (of the aliens) o_O
Zhang Ziyi on stage in a black hot tube and dress! This is a nose-bleeding session. Then again, it's the costume designers who do the fantastic dresses which help to make young guys fantasize?? which just helps add to the glitz and glamour of the event.
Will Smith trying to sputter say some foreign language in his presentation of Best Foreign Film. John Travolta (2 time Award Winner) is still stocky looking. Dion Beebe from Memoirs of the Geisha wins the Best Cinematography.

In a 5-way fight for Best Adapted Screenplay between Capote, Brokeback Mountain, The Constant Gardener, A History of Violence and Munich, it goes to Brokeback Mountain! (finally an award o_O)
Best Original Screenplay pits Crash, "good night, and good luck.", Match Point, The Squid and the Whale and Syriana. Crash won the award, and I must say it was a great win for them. 2 awards so far, more to come?
Now for the most important award so far...the tussle for Best Director between Capote, Crash, "good night, and good luck.", Brokeback Mountain and Munich. Lee Ang wins for Brokeback Mountain. Certainly a wonderful achievement for the Chinese director, winning against the likes of Steven Spielberg and George Clooney.
Best Motion Picture of the Year pits the very same nominees as Best Picture together. (for another round of fights). Oscars goes to Crash, after a close fight between the 5 movies. Paul Haggis & Cathy Schulman win for Crash, and it's all the more sweeter when you look at who they were up against (Lee Ang in Brokeback Mountain, Steven Speilberg in Munich).

Sunday papers are always interesting reads, especially the articles placed in the Sunday Times. Basically, for a busy person, it would just about be the summary of the most important events in the week, and articles would be there discussing the latest in issues affecting Singapore and the world.
The past 2 weeks have been rife with news of the impending Elections, the poly student in sex video, S. Rajaratnam's death and many other more.
What a week.
The late S. Rajaratnam's passing has brought down the curtain of one of the pioneer members involved heavily in the building of modern-day Singapore. From 3rd-world country to 1st world (or 1.5 on the scale of first to third world, since we're neither in the 2nd world nor the 1st. That's food for thought, nonetheless). But a more important thing to note is that, have we students and citizens of Singapore, who did not live in the turbulent period of the 1960s and 70s, forgotten our 'founding fathers'?
The history text which we read nowadays is crafted in such a way that we remember and learn what we are taught, and we do not strive to understand and learn more besides what MOE wishes to teach us. Is that right?
Well the curriculum is here to stay, that's for sure. Nevertheless, it is troubling to hear that many of our younger generation do not really know of the people who have done Singapore proud by their hard work and labour to bring Singapore thus far. Definitely, it is not just the works of SM Lee, but the people around him who also played a significant, though less publicised, roles. A country of amnesics? Maybe. Have we forgotten our roots, and we've yet to even hit the 50 year old mark.
Where the STB tries to spruce up history by adding in the Merlion story into its tourism promotion programmes, is there nothing in Singapore worthy of being remembered and kept? We see how the 'new' downtown is changing and modified; the old houses and buildings making way for newer, bigger and more futuristic buildings. Think the new Supreme Court. Think the Esplanade. Think the new NLB building. One can only remember the old buildings in Singapore which have, sadly, had to make way for such buildings which bear little significance and weight to Singapore as a country.
A country, so forward-looking, displayed by its futuristic buildings and sophisicated and advanced technology? Well, it just might be the image the STB and government are trying to portray.
Moving on, Elections 2006. Well it's coming soon, and this time I hope I get to do some voting (though I'd bet no oppositions would wanna come down to my GRC to slug it out, since it has been a PAP stronghold thus long). So maybe, I won't get my wish after all. And I did not get to vote for a new President then, so maybe it would be another 4 more years before the voting comes around again.
The NYP student's sex video which got the nation's attention is no doubt circling the web as we speak now (and no I've no such video), but it raises the question of students making it out and having such actions taken using their advanced 2.5/3G phones. More than that, it also brings forth the question of who's in the right and wrong. The perpetrator of the evil deed of circulating the stolen phone's videos should be shot down with as much hate and disgust as that being said of the student involved in the sex video. For he had circulated something which he/she had stolen from another person, something which would not have seen the light of day, nor been the talk of town, should he/she had not launched it en masse on downloading sites and through the WWW. Basically, the Internet has been used as a tool for reaching the masses, the world-wide audience.
And people have been relentless in their search for this clip. And yes, many blogs have spoken about this hype surrounding the issue. Oh well, conspiracy issues will surface, but my take on this issue is that the ultimate villain is the person who stole the phone and put the videos online. For the girl, she definitely was in the wrong to have had sex with another guy (and be easily identified o_O), but I would put that into the back-burner, as having sex is more of a couple/relationship thing Added to the fact that they had not (apparently) posted the sex video online themselves, which means that they were not seeking public attention in doing so. (Well, if they did it for public attention, then they SURE got it o_O)
The thief of the phone could have just seen the videos, enjoyed it, chucked it aside, and used the phone for his own planned purposes (eg. sell it, use it), instead of launching it online. A hidden agenda, perhaps a personal vendetta against the girl? Most likely. But nonetheless, what he/she has done is an incorrigible act and should he/she be found out I hope that justice would be meted out severely (for he/she WAS in possession of sex and lurid videos, whahahaha).

Oh yes, I'm in love with trekking. Well, it just sorta came to me that trekking was something which I liked, and it sure feels different from the days of Army where you had to lug a rifle together with a SBO full of useless stuff you do not require (other than the bullets) and a field-pack full of clothes (and some stuff which you OBVIOUSLY won't need, but the reason for being there is...uh.... o.O")
It's been some time since I've come across people so into trekking and the great outdoors. Which is real good since they could potentially be part of us, the Rovers family. Their passion is what drives the club, and all alumni who still have the passion will join and help out in whatever treks possible!
Apart from that, trying to do work is a pain in the ass head. Having a headache does not help matters, nor does having itchy skin boost one's energy level to study more. More often than not, I would go to sleep to prevent myself from going to scratch those pox-illated parts.
Sigh, life's such a bore. But at least the lecturers and tutors are kind and understanding, asking me to recover first before re-arranging an alternative test date.
So many things to rearrange. Stupid disease virus. And yes, NOBODY comes to visit me. Not you, You, YOU nor YOU. *points in the crowd*
Okay, enough of blabbering. Time to revise, on the comfort of my bed, since I'm strictly allowed to be in bed only. Geez.
Results for my recent dualthon are out. Pretty lousy timings, since I had rode my bike down in the morning prior to the event (which equals to 10km++ of warmup. Is that COOL or what?!)
Run 1 (10km): 00:48:55
Bike (36km): 01:32:32
Run 2 (5km): 00:45:18
Total: 03:06:44
Position: 101/164 (completed)
Pretty lousy 2nd run, the 5km one. I actually am surprised with my 10km run, which I thought was much much slower than I had predicted. I was off my normal pace, but guess I wasn't. The bike part was hampered by 3x calf strains in the first 2 rounds, but I guess I managed to hit a pretty decent timing considering that I had not trained much for the event, only riding Enping's bike 2 times prior to the event. But I was definitely more confident on the road bike. The last 5km was a total horror. The reason for such a long time was that both my thigh and calf muscles pulled and I had to be helpless for about 5 minutes, while stretching it. On top of that, I had walked for quite a distance along the route. How am I NOT surprised my final timing would be like that?
Never mind, there's always a next time :)
