Berkelah Rox!

Oh man...back into the great outdoors sure is a wonderful (and long overdue) thing.

One word to describe the ENTIRE trip: 悴 (or cui)

Maiden trip with the 27th: Hwi Bee and Weiguang being ICs and Jason & me being the supporting cast (i.e. co-ICs). Managed to get Kian Ann along for the trek despite some last minute problems prior to departure.

Was wondering whether there would be any hiccups during the trip. My doubts became unfounded.

It was a trip full of 'stunts', from the beginning to the end, but all went well! Smooth sailing, I must say, and all thanks to WG, HB, WJ and KA for making it well done! Well, like always, there's things to learn from every trip, and this one would be:

Breakfast in M'sia during Ramadan ain't the best

Met up with the rest of the comm and participants at Kranji after rushing to get food and the stores from CK, who could not make it for the trip due to his vomitting. Packed my bag, had dinner, and dad zoomed me to Kranji asap. Phew~ managed to reach on time! And we realised...(after HB had arrived) that we did not have eggs, so off WJ went to Causeway Point to get the eggs (which apparently he cannot live without it on treks o_O")

Geraldine, Geok and Yings came along before we left Kranji to send us off! And I saw Ninghan! (like finally) But wells, a totally different setting to meet her, hope to talk to ya more ger!

And off we left for Malaysia...

Why many 'stunts'? Well, for one, WG lost his hp at Larkin, and the poor guy cant find it even though he checked with the bus uncle. It was pretty sad to lose your own hp, especially with all the contacts and stuff which you keep inside, not to mention the cost for replacing it. However, there's nothing we could do further other than ask the bus uncle for help. Hopefully he gets a replacement phone asap. Sighs, can't do much except try to cheer him up.

Then whilst waiting for the participants, Jason and HB were busy wrapping the eggs with newspapers.

Hwi Bee and her egg wraps

And off we went to take the bus! Only to find out that WG saw the wrong plate number and place, and we waited for a lil' while more prior to going up the bus. The small mistake allowed us to interact more with the participants!

Photo-taking!

Getting onto the bus, it was a comfy ride and soon it was lights off for us. Well, for most of us that is. I was talking to HB and Lijun (ppt) throughout the first-half of the bus ride! Was slowly drifting in and outta sleep at times whilst talking. The fact that my seat could not recline made sleeping all the more difficult.

At the rest-point, it was a much-awaited supper for me, as I ordered a pattaya whilst 5 other people looked at me eat. So paisei. The meal made me feel full and more energised...but in the end I still fell asleep whilst talking to LJ. Haiz.

Reaching Kuantan at 5am in the morning, reminds me of the previous 3 trips I've been there. Always early birds, awakened from our deep slumber (this time not) and getting off the cold bus freezing, taking our big bags and climbing the long flight of steps.

This time round, met Abu and his friends at the bus station super early, and realised that due to Ramadan many things have changed - no more prata at the usual place, timings have to change, etc. Made some planning on our side and we decided to get food from the coffeeshop nearby, then meet up with him and his taxis to go to Berkelah. The food we got, was pathetic, considering that due to Puasa, the shops close at 0530. So, it was kind of a bad start to the day -sighs-

Whilst the rest went to get food, me and KA were busy taking pictures...This particular store usually does not open for business till later in the morning, so it was a surprise to see the cups it has!

Our cuppas kopi (above) and milo (below) in cute cups!

KA and his kopi!

Me and the pipin' hot Milo!

Our breakfast o_O"

Was grouped with Amy, PK and Vincent for the taxi ride. Seeing that they're pretty sleepy, little small talk was held. And we reached the foot of Berkelah earlier than expected.

Photo-whoring resumed. Haha.

When all had arrived, we prepared our stuff, did the usual briefings, warmed up, and started the trek! All the participants were pretty much revved up for the trek by then, and we made quick progress to the first waterfall, and thereafter to the campsite.

Participants were there busily taking pictures, 自拍, absorbing the wonderful scenery unfolding in front of them as they moved ahead.

WG and I!

HB...starting off!

Terence and Grace holding on for their lives!

Lijun, Phoebe and Me!

This one's totally random. But it looks nicer HAHA.

How amazing, that a trek can bring people closer :)

3rd waterfall is as amazingly beautiful as ever, and the place in Berkelah was tranquil. Not surprising, considering that it was Puasa and a weekday to boot. Basically we had the whole place to ourselves, but we could not use our regular campsite due to flooding (which is man-made, I believe.)

Help me!

Acting cute!

Okay Hong Quan is supposedly scaring them. HAHA.

Another group pic! Dennis, Jason, Lijun, Me, Weiguang, Grace, Cecila

High-ing on 'act cuteness'

The confidence jump was still on! Good weather prevailed, and we had fun jumping down, going up again, and jumping down! It was made much safer with our new pill pillow which we got for the trip (and for future ones)! It was much easier for the safety IC down there.

Yummy lil' pill!

And when we were about to cook, we realised that we have not enough food! (Or at least I thought that way) So this was another "stunt" which we had, the lack of food (apparently). Luckily, the participants had too much food and we got some spagetti from them to cook our curry sauce, tomato sauce as well as to go along with the chicken bites I had brought up!

Total morale booster man.

But I was so unlukcy to have spilled food all night long - from the mushroom and hotdog pieces I've cut out, to the chicken patties which I've painstakingly tried to preserve, to the nata de coco which I spilled have a packet on the ground. Sighs. What a waste of food.

What to do with marshmallows without any satay sticks? Use spagetti sticks! o_O"

Then, we went over to the middle of the river to watch the stars. I missed the shooting star the participants saw earlier, but I was hoping to see another. So there we were, lying down in the middle of the river...till I fell asleep. The air was cooling, I was not in the water, and it was so so so nice. It's this type of condition that you can go to sleep so easily. Hahaz. And LJ said I cui-ed too easily. Oh well, I was shacked after all the Cyclohunt. I need a rest.

Returned to the tent to find WG cooking pasta (cos he's hungry already) and we went inside to play bridge. Was tired, but played for a couple of rounds before shackness took over and I dozed off to sleep.

The next day was a hurried morning. Having to catch a 2pm bus, we had to wake up early, cook our breakfast and get ready to move off by 9am. And the committee had no Milo! OMG. I was so dui cos I saw Milo at Larkin and HB told me next time she would get Milo from there instead cos it's cheaper. Darned. We should have gotten it.

So we did the usual, going down Berkelah, going to bathe, and then meet Abu and off to Kuantan we went, stopping at the row of Chinese food stalls this time round 'cos Abu said it's Puasa and A&W is closed. Well, it wasn't. And I'm slightly pissed with that.

Luckily, the saving grace was the RM3 noodles, of which I had 2! Had a serving of 叉烧面 and 烧鸭面 each. Totally awesome! Maybe next time can bring the participants there also. But I would very much liked to have gone to A&Ws...which we went in the end! *beams* Had my root beer there, the others had fries as well as waffles! Woah!

Peter and Tan Ching

New eating place!

烧鸭面

The ride back was pretty uneventful. Seats were very comfortable, and most of them were asleep on the way back, except Terence, Hong Quan, Lijun and me, 'cos we were busy playing bridge for half the journey! Destressing period, and we had fun! Oh and Tom & Jerry was showing on the TV in the bus. Fun and laughter...

After the pit stop at the petrol kiosk, the 2 guys were tired and left to meet 周公 whilst Kian Ann, Lijun, Cecila and I talked the remaining of the journey home. The others were pretty much awake immediately after the stopover, but drifted to sleep soon after. For the 4 of us, we were just crapping around and it was nice to finally let loose and crap out. Haha.

Reaching Larkin, had a short debrief and most of us went to Taman Sri Tebrau for dinner! But there was a minor scare as Pooi Khay said she lost her handphone on the bus. Luckily, Weiguang managed to find it for her, and we proceeded to meet the rest.

I can never describe the dinner

ABSOLUTELY SUPERB! (Too bad, hungry me did not take the spread we had)

Cereal prawns, Sambal kangkong, Stingrays, Sotong, Ou Lua...and to top it off we had the most expensive durians ever! (Courtesy of my 3 cute participants...I shall not name them to protect their worthless identities)

U'll have to ask me how much I paid to eat just a seedling. o_O"

But it was nice. Thanks guys! The dinner left me super full, and it was really great! Food is good, as always...

Cheers!

Now we know...30% more, but the circumference decreases! Hmms...

Reached home at about 1040, bade goodbye with Jason who left for home from the same bus stop which we reached. Unpacked my stuff, switched on my desktop, and went to bathe. Not in the mood to msg, just in the mood to totally sleep in. Hazy night...indeed.

Some things need not be said - they are too cliched.

cyclohunt!

15 people came together, with less than a month to consolidate themselves, get themselves attuned, and work together for a major project. And this project ended on a high note just today morning.

CYCLOHUNT 2006

We've done a good jobs guys, it's time to give yourselves a pat on your shoulders, cos it's finally over! (Well, till the next event that is...)

Though it was not smooth sailing, with stunts (like NParks, rain, SMU event??) happening, we managed to deliver a great event for the participants! And for that, we should congratulate ourselves. We managed to overcome our serious shortage of manpower, got some of the 26th to do saikang despite them competing, and we had 212 participants in 53 teams! That's superb...I've never expected to have such a strong response for Cyclohunt! People from diverse places came together - NUS people, cyclists from togoparts.com and sgrunners.com, NTU and NAP students - we're letting our event known more to others!

I hope next year would be as good, if not, even better!

And to see my friends forming up teams for the event to support me, THANK YOU LOADS! I love you all guys and gals... :)

Thanks to...
Yi Si, Minghui, Joyce and Xiangyu in Team SKADI; Ryan, Lionel, Chin Khiong and Zhanwei in Team OneOrange Ver2.0; Jinyao and his Team Brotherhood; Tianqi, Wanling, Laiyee and Shuanghui in Team Tequila Weasels!

Not to forget, Edison and his friends, Daniel and his friends, Andreas (for helping out in his busy schedule!), Henghong and her team...have I missed any? :)

And suay suay all of them kenna the North route. Muhahaha. Now all complain to me.

Staying at the hut for the whole nite was fun! But listening to repeated tracks of Jay's album is seriously not good. The pub seems to be playing it the whole nite long lors. Haha.

Okailer!

all u need is a rest at times.

Seeing her lying on the bed, without strength, talking with some difficulty in breathing, does not help things.

She's been working hard all her life...now's the time for her to take a rest? Maybe not too long a rest, but well, a rest is still a rest. A little worried now, I am.

Rest. Now so devoid of meaning.

I enter school each day with a power failure in the grey matter of the head. I end school feeling half-satisfied, thinking what else I have to do. I rarely think. I act on impulse.

And impulses are bad. No coherent structure, no coherent thinking done. My facial expressions are...expressionless. Stoned. Yea.

Where's me?

Thanks Andy, for the ice-cream. Been some time since I had such a great ice-cream (okay, DQ's ice-cream cone counts too haha).

All the best to Ghim for his presidency ;)

I'm missing my calculator...who took it?!

Progress too slow...?

Am I slowing down?

I think I am...

Lotsa things to do:
- Prepare for Cyclohunt (like neverending -_-")
- Prepare for Berkelah Trip (oh yea...4th time...)
- Revise my CN21xx mods (3 in 3 days after the hols >.<)
- More trips (I hope so *muses*)
- Shopping...
- Movies...
- Indulgence...
- Prepare for SCSM (oh gosh the thought of it now scares me -_-")
- IPPT (aim!)
- Personal time for self
- Crazy things

Just need to keep adding to the list...Looking forward to post-Cyclohunt reds.

Was slightly pissed with what happened today. Suddenly it dawned on me why it ended up like that. Maybe LG is right...It's time to learn. Let go. Let loose. Learn from mistakes. And come back get scolded (haha...added e last one in myself).

But you get the point.

Maybe, I'm just afraid of having things go wrong...

---

Was running around school today with Yings doing Cyclohunt form collection. It's much more fun to do things with others than doing it alone. It's different from running. From PGP to Biz to Sci we went, and we met Hai Ping (who was gg to gym during lunch hours o_O"), Geraldine, Weiguang and Sharon (She's so funny...standing there whilst both of us were making calls out to our participants! Haha)! Roaming booth, as we call ourselves. Sure beats the normal booths set up in fixed locations awaiting for participants to sign up! Well, it didnt fell like 2 hours of our life in NUS has just passed us by, so that was a good thing...After that, met Jorin (gg for field trip...I wan!), Tze Hwee (long time no see gal!), Pei Geok (had to pass her some ai-xing-food frm her buddies), Wanling and Shuanghui (I've not met e 2 of u for a long time!) Had a great time catching up and basically zuo-boing whilst the 2 of them waited for class, and me having a briefing at 6pm for Berkelah.

Well, can't believe I spent a whole day in school -sigh- Things are not getting done. Why?

Rain keeps falling on my head this week...Helps to keep the hair growing. lols.

Don't we love rain? Rain brings us the joy of life.

Just that some joyous moments could have been in much better scenarios.

More Cyclohunt stuff. Yea I'm gonna go mad soon. But I'll grit it through. Seeing the magical 6-days-to-go sure helps.

Had our bike recce yesterday night, after a long shower in the afternoon. Was pretty scared that the weather would not hold, but it still managed to stop the shower and allow us to continue with the recce!

The whole comm was down, with the usual presence of late-comers etc, and we proceeded to start with the bike recce. Was with Pei Geok, Weiguang and Xiuling recceing the North route. They were kinda unsure of the north (yea I think only 3 ppl in the comm know??). So I tried to offer my pointers. In the end...sighs. I think I just ended up telling them how to go. And me bringing a bus-directory-lookalike ain't helping when you need all the smaller roads available (found in street directories of course).

And we had fun at The Prata House eating prata, and I saw Freddy, Zhenming, Wai Leong and Andrew! Okay, so it was a medicine faculty gathering.

Bike recce was fun...having the wind blowing at you whilst you speed downhill, and having to go to places which we are used to having lotsa ppl! But of course, I had gone to those places before, so it was just...another recap. :)

It was gratifying to know that Xiuling improved over the night for her cycling technique, and that we seemed more cohesive. Oh wells. And the other teams had their own share of fun too! We did, of course, like meeting Yiyang at Kovan MacDonalds (during our toilet break) at 5am in the morning! Not to forget the super big joke on PG. HAHA.

Rainy day...what a great day to rest at home and lie snugly under your blanket. How I wish I had the time to relax, to find my rhythm back, to get a little bounce in every step I make. How I wish I had a time to sort out everything in life.

Well, time is running away from me now ehs? Time always have. Or had. Whatever. My language sucks.

Could I have more time? I'm sorry. Time...please slow for me...

Sighing accelerates aging. Maybe it's true, after all...

I'll believe...believe in a better tomorrow. ^_^

Nite out

Yea. A whole night devoted to Cyclohunt.

Again.

Recceing 3 places, yet it took me almost 3 hrs to complete them. Shacked.

Tomorrow night, another recce!? OMG. I'm so-so-so gonna die.

But never mind, gonna tide through this tough period man.

It's the critical period. Nothing can go wrong. Should go wrong. Cant afford a slightest error. Play by ear if need be.

On a lighter note, LSM lab is over! But that means I've 5 hours of break on Fridays (which sucks?). And no more "Mr Sexy Chemical Engineers" in LSM Labs.

Wearing lab coats without the nitty gritty problem of having googles over your eyes, doing things freely and easily in a noisy environment full of sharing. And you laugh off the stupid things you do in the lab.

Yea, it's those lighthearted moments, so reminiscient of o-week, that I'll miss.

Fun. Joy. Laughter.

Where am I headed?

sexy returns.

Was super tired today. Met up with CK and Candice at Clementi today to settle the Treasurer stuff, and now I've officially relinquished my Treasury duties! Woohoo!

But more stuff awaits for me. Haz.

Was tired during tutorials. 2 1-hour tutorials do not help when you mind is blank, or you have not done your work. But at least, I thought I understood the equations and its meanings. Hmms. I need to get down to studying and DOING the work.

Informal booth session at Central Library turned out pretty well! And Guanyu was interested in joining the diving! Yay! And take care dude ;)

Went for chemistry lecture, a 2 hour one. Totally conked out. Dunno why also. But it was pretty bad. Had a cup of coffee prior to the lecture, but was losing to the fight with the Zee-Monster halfway through the first hour of the lecture. Totally shacked. During the break, asked Daryl (the guy who stood next to me whilst commissioning! Wow!) to help me get a cup of coffee should he pass by Dillys'.

And I just promptly KOed at my seat.

The KO was so superb, I did not even realise he swopped my empty cup with a filled up of coffee.

Thanks a lot dude! I was very surprised that I did not notice the change in cups, and I really owe you big time. Haha.

Caffeine sure makes me high.

Joked about a lotta stuff during the 2nd half of the lecture. And it sure made life less boring. Sn2 reactions being termed as the infamous "backside" reaction. More crap on "sexiness" and the bo liao things I say.

Yea I kinda forget things easily. Brain non-functional. A cuppa coffee, bring it on.

A cuppa sure makes one high. Just do not add Daryl's genes into it, or add laxatives. Do it at your own risk.

enjoying the wind in my face
running down roads so empty
looking within, am I also too?
coasting from place to place
returning to places long forgotten
shoring back old memories
and creation of new ones

一路向北

Not really 北...more like a West-East recce for the night.

Started off with me being taken over at the wheel, highs were built up, and ended on a zombie-fied mood (I couldn't expect more after 9 hours of recce, can I?), albeit with a great sun-rise on my drive home.

Thanks a lot! To Ah Mu, CK, Yings and Zhai...It was a nice night for recce, despite having Zhai leave half-way. A carload of Jay Chou lovers sitting in the car listening to Jay's songs (not the new one though, hahaha) and humming to the melodious tunes.

And the great places we visited. Frosted windows in cars. Hordes of...*ahem*. Cockroach infested areas. Bakpoks. Not to mention an ultra-ulu, rundown area. And lotsa more...

I love night activities. Not recce itself, but because you get to be with friends doing a common activity. Haha. Thought it would be a good way to break the ice. Like the 3 people sitting at the back watching a movie on my laptop, like how I realised Ah Mu is damn funny and ingenious with the type of possible questions, like how CK was very focused in achieving his goals, and turned up with perfume on his singlet (wad's that combo again?!), like how Zhai was enthusiastic about the recce (except for the fact she had to return home early), like how I played slow (and sad?) songs which put ppl to dreamland faster than you can say "What do you think of the song?", like how Yings was super hyper (haha!). Basically hor, all of us could be said as zi-hai la. haha.

Good? Bad? It depends on how YOU view it in the end.

For me, I'd prefer to look on the brighter side of life and bask in its goodness. Take away the happy moments which could be taken away. These would be the memories for us, for the 5 of us.

And as the day slowly brightened up around us, I sent the rest home, all obviously tired from the long night. Hope you guys had fun! Haha, things can get better! Just let loose, enjoy! (Like my lameness which someone is oblivious to).

Rest well and catch up on sleep! Time to plan a second recce for those places which have not been explored yet. It should all work out fine, I hope. Wednesday...

stress?

bad feeling about a lotta stuff.

surely someways could be explored to help create a better working atmosphere for all?

understanding...where has it evaporated to?
committment...where has it gone to?

Love the nights at SSA, after a good late run in the evenings, sitting there by the grandstand, watching others exercise, admiring the peek-a-boo tricks of the stars in the dark (and cloudy) skies.

Lightning flashed in the distance. Was actually hoping I was running in the rain. It didn't happen.

Had a nice talk to Candice despite the super poor reception for Starhub phones at SSA. A lot of things to throw up, but I do not know who to throw to. Would there be consequences if I threw it up wrongly? I'd bet there is.

Night recce later, yet problems arise. Do I wish to have such problems? I'm fighting fire everyday. I'm getting a little drained. And a coalition government ain't helping. Haha.

Time to get a nap...

Exasperation

Numb?

Not numb. Just tired that I've to keep repeating myself. But maybe, to repeat is to reinforce ideas. But was it so? It did not happen that way.

Exasperation was overcome by the need to study. And study I did. A test for today, managed to mug in time from 0100hrs to 0400hrs today, then slept and woke up at 0930hrs to get ready for school.

And all my tutorials are left lying in a stack.

Swept them up, placed into the file, and my wind just wandered...

Goals. Committments. Human relationships. Work. Initiative.

It's comforting to know that there are people who are willing to work, willing to sacrifice. And it really pisses me (sorry abt e choice of words) that some are not willing to be forthcoming about their own committments and dedication.
15 people is all we got. Do you realise it? Or maybe it's time for some totalitarian stand. Then no questions ASKED.
Thanks to yings and zhihui for help me out during this time. My secretaries are sure a great bunch. Haha...looking forward to working more with u 2!

Juggling, juggling. As always.

And I heard a funny story just only. Haha. I need something to light up my life now. Boring me settling in. Yea. Just wondered also, why din I have such light-hearted/funny moments. Is it me? My style? Sighs. Or maybe, I'm too into the fun, that I forget the fun moment itself.

I'm feeling like a lil' Lego dude now...haha. I miss the times when one has nothing to worry, nothing to think, nothing to care, nothing to embrace. Or is nothingness just an excuse for people who do not wish to learn new things?

Blabbering, I am.

Lovewrecked...to be honest, is a cheesy cheap chick flick. Haha. But it's kinda nice and cute (not to mention the periods of lame humour were...to die for). It's been a while since I've watched such movies, and it's fun too!

Today was a long day, simply because things ain't going as planned. Or were they planned for failure in the first place? Just need to sort out some issues. And not to forget my ever-increasing stack of work whenever I turn back. Oh well.

Fun day, today...Busy schedules sure do not help in creating nice times for a nice outing. Sighs. But I'm quite contented with what I have thus far, though we all wished that we had 48 hours in a day. Haha.

Maybe I'll need to find myself shipwrecked in an 'ulu' island. Keep me in suspense, keep me in denial. But just lemme have the fun first.

'Crocodile Hunter' dies

I'd bet it's all over the news now, and many of you might have heard of it. Here's the story from BBC.

Was walking down the steps of YIH, where there was this huge screen showing CNA the whole day, with Yings en route to Rovers table for some poster flooding, and we could not believe the news. It was more of a...shocker. Yups. Shocking isn't it? And the cause of the death was so rare, you won't have seen it coming. I mean, what's the chances of being speared by a stingray during a dive expedition??

It was such fun watching his shows, and it's a pity that we've lost such an interesting guy on the google box, someone whose personality exudes confidence and makes us wanna know more about the natural world out there. Someone, who helps us connect with nature, through our own invention, the google box.

It's so sad. And the ironic thing was that he got killed by nature. The irony of it all.

Well on MSN, this messag is what I got:

If u haven't heard already, Steve Irwin-crocodile hunter d today on the 4th of September, on the Batt Reef, near cairns. "He came on top of the stingray and the stingray's barb went up and into his chest and put a hole into his heart." As a sign of respect for the Australian natural icon, please place a tortoise ( tu ) at the start of ur MSN nick and forward this msg to others.

of running, swimming, rovers and life

Realised how much I've lagged in my other areas of life.

Like not having my regular running sessions. Or my swimming routine being in tatters now with all the stupid tutorials. Not to mention, a looming test tomorrow and on thursday. Geez.

And Cyclohunt's approaching.

A lot of things have to be done, believe it or not. Whether we like it or not. We can change what's passed down, yes, but do we have the time to? Do EVERYONE have the time to?

Sometimes some people do not think of the big picture and they stubbornly push on for their own ideas. Sometimes people do not understand what it means by letting others know of your committments.

That's all set to change.

I need the sun in my eyes, the rain on my face, the water at my body, and a night to remember. Then again, I just need time to relax. Do I have?

I'm somehow contented that I'm not attached. Is it a plus? In a way, I'm not letting the other person down with my work and studies. I'll bore her, I think. So that's a good thing I guess. I'm busy, and well, it didn't work out once before, would it EVER work out again? Sighs. No time to think of this.
