Just gotta blog the latest theories I've conceived, with the help of NUS and Daryl, over the past week. It's weird, 'cos these theories stemmed from facts we've learnt and seen in everyday life. In fact, used commonly in figure of speech too!
So, sit back, and enjoy...
1) Fact: NUS uses bell-curve to compute results. Wanna know why? 'Cos NUS is a bell-shaped university. Look around, from Science to Engineering, from Engineering to Arts, from YIH to Arts...the list just goes on. More and more hills, so who said that NUS aint a bell-shaped school? It is, and it's personified in the way they do things too.
2) The module I'm taking, GEK1510, talks basically on great ideas which physicists have came up with over the past years. We learnt the photoelectric effect, which most of you 'A' level physics dudes out there would have learnt before (For the uninitiated, I've even included a link for you here.). On top of that, we learn about electrons being in excited states due to energy gain.

The above is the all-famous figure of speech whereby a person's 'light-bulb' lights up whenever he has an incoming idea. Why? One might ask.
The theory, is simple.
When a push is given to the person's head, the force is transferred to the brain cells in the head, giving them an initial acceleration.
where F is the push on the head, m is the total mass of the brain cells, and a is the acceleration of the system.
So energy is also transferred to the brain-cell-system, since there is Conservation of Momentum. Velocity of the brain-cell-system increases due to the force acting on it. Energy is also transferred, by Conservation of Energy. The electrons will be in an excited state due to the energy taken in.
When the electrons in the brain cell take in energy, they will take in a quantum packet of energy, since you take in either whole or none of the energy given to it. In that case, those electrons in the brain cell which gain enough energy will be able to 'escape' the system, by emitting photons. The brain cells, on emission of photons, will then lose energy, as well as the corresponding number of electrons to the number of photons emitted.
The emission of photons thus reflects why the light-bulb appears when an on-rushing idea comes in.
3) There's also another theory, this time from Quantum Mechanics. There's this theorem which states that if a particle hits a surface (e.g. wall) fast and hard enough, the particle just might be able to pass through the surface without the surface having a hole.
This theory applies to real life too. Many times, why do we sense pain when we punch a wall?
This is because due to the punch, some particles (or atoms) from your hand (or surface of your knuckle) has passed through the surface. The passing through of atoms into the wall means that the atoms has gone INTO the wall, and therefore you feel pain, because the atoms have left your hand.
Now you know why...
We learn new things everyday, don't we?
