Tonight we dine in HELL!!!

Was wayyyy late for the meet-up with Marcus. Darned. Was jammed in traffic. Maybe the rain had something to do with it. Or maybe, Singapore has too many cars roaming the streets at certain periods of the day.

This was the movie which I initially wanted to watch, but did not have time to do so...and finally I can! Well I managed to go home early to rest, since there were no tutorials in the afternoon. Hit the gym in school first before I headed home, with no lunch (but I ain't hungry anyway) and having little more than a piece of duck and 2 tau sah piah for 'dinner'...it DOES help that they were food which I liked!

The movie was rated M18, but I wondered whether the rating was correct, or should it be R21...then again other than showing nipples and breasts and bare-chested dudes with outrageous 6-packs, the artistic style of filming it does not seem to be R21-rated (which I think is for shows with explicit sex scenes...like Basic Instinct?!?) But then again...18 year olds can view girls in (almost) full nude mehs? Hmms. Well this is something I wondered aloud during the course of the show.

Anyway to move on, it's inspiring to guys 'cos you're definitely awed by the 300 men each having 6-packs. Well the production notes stated that the cast had to undergo vigorous gym training to train up those "packs" of theirs. It helps that post-production helped to stencil the abs to make them more clear and defined.

The cinematography was very "Sin City"-like - the colours, topography, forms and even the dramatic sequencing of certain events and fighting scenes helped to increase the 'visual dynamics' of the movie. It was astounding, and the soundtrack accompanying the movie was of equivalent class.

But well, the violence might be something which can be considered to be gory and times, while visually stunning in certain scenes. Dramatic it might seem, but I think the type of gore and bloodshed in this film might tend to put off some of the women from watching the movie.

Felt hungry after the movie, but didn't get anything till I reached home, ate a tau sah piah (remaining 1) and worked on my lab report. *yawn*

Personal goal from henceforth: Gym more, eat less and healthily, achieve those outrageous stenciled 6-packs.

Stomp Ê Yard!

After trying to shove aside some time (and much-needed sleep) aside, I finally watched my first movie this month! Wow...the last one was Letters from Iwo Jima with Ruhui and PWC. Had a list of movies which I wanted to watch, such as TMNT, Pursuit of Happyness, etc, but I watched Stomp The Yard with Weili! Managed to catch our show in time too! Just that there was a person checking the tickets at the very same cinema...darned.

I must say that the dance scenes are pretty great to watch...something along the line of Happy Feet or Step Up, but the overall plot is simply bad to begin with. But well, at least we're entertained by the step-dancing and lovely movements they had to make.

The sub-plot of the guy chasing a girl who has a boyfriend...mans...maybe all of you out there should watch it...somehow. Teach you few tricks here and there *lol*

But overall...still passable based on the great dance movements! Plot sucks, so if you're going for a real good movie, maybe you should tune in to other movies instead :)

After the movie, we basically walked around - we had not shopped in Orchard for quite some time le, so we made our way to places like the Apple Shop @ Cine and NewUrbanMale at The Heeren. The giant screen for the iMac is uber cool! OMGosh. I think if you watch videos on it you can just chunk out your old TV if yours aint a Plasma or LCD type. It's super big and clear! Not to mention, WHITE :D

I wanna watch more movies! Pirates of the Carribean 3, TMNT, Pursuit of Happyness....the list goes on!!!!

X-Physique!

We Came, We Saw, We Conquered...

Din expect to leave with so much stuff at the end of the race, in which there was minimal training and we were so busy with our stuff that we decided to just go for the experience (and thrill?) of adventure racing. X-Physique is like the entry-level or stepping stone for adventure racers and wannabes.

And it turned out pretty well for us, in the end that is. But the route to victory was quite unforeseen.

Nianjia met me at my house to head down to National Youth Park near Somerset, where the race was to be held. We reached Orchard super early and took our time, while waiting for Bing Ying and Cindy.

There were not many people there at the NYP and it was quite dead, with the Mixed Open wave having gone at 8am and should be back around 11 plus, it would be some time before the place got noisy and brimming with people again.

While we waited, we saw the other teams, the JC teams as well as the varsity teams, which were early for the event. The JC teams numbered about 15 in total, and there were multiple teams from each JC's ODAC (usually). Notable ones present were CJC (of course...), NJC, Innova and Meridian. Looks like a tough fight for the Challenge Shield this year.

The race started in the hot afternoon sun of 12 noon, and we were the third of many teams which started the race, which consisted of the Inter-Varsity (31) and JC (15) teams. The lead team was apparently a JC team, most likely CJC, while the 2nd team in front of us was from NTU. We were third, and maintained a steady pace behind the 2 teams. The rest were behind us, keeping pace.

As we went down from NYP to Marina (first stop), we 3 teams split up - the JC team went left towards SMU before the Fort Canning tunnel, the NTU team moved right in a bid to circle around the tunnel and go in through the Tanjong Pagar side. For us, we just went into the tunnel and ran in a single file against traffic. The rest of the teams apparently followed us, but we managed to shake them off as we crossed 2 junctions in the nick of time.

Our goal was to reach the Sheares bridge, head up the steps and go into Marina via the Sheares bridge side. That's along the path where people usually go to watch fireworks (yes i do!) and we managed to get into Marina, past a checkpoint which we'll go later, and towards the cycling station. We were first, apparently, and our hopes lifted.

The 3 rounds were rather torturous for us as 1)Cindy got a bike which cannot change gear, and 2) I changed bikes for Cindy but got a bike which apparently has its brake pads permanently 'glued' to the front wheel, making it as though you are riding with resistance. It was pretty bad, and Bing Ying changed with me to help me out. I was really slow, and I was thinking how the heck could I be so slow, get so much resistance, when I was on the lightest gears?!?

Apart from that, we got caught up by other groups and they managed to finish first, which resulted in us being second for the dash towards the next station, in which we had to do a river-crossing with ropes, to and fro. It was a wet affair and I swear I've drunk some of the most polluted water possibly! The water was quite dark, and since you are pulling yourself using the overhead rope, it was difficult to prevent yourself from getting water onto your face, nose and mouth.

After clearing the obstacle, we were in second place, and went on towards the kayaking area at Marina Promenade. However, while running I started to feel a thigh cramp coming up, so I stopped to do a brisk walk to prevent it from settling in. It worked, and the kayaking started.

This was one of the most horrendous kayaking I've ever done! The kayak was really unbelievably prone to major changes in direction! After paddling 7-8 strokes, me and Nianjia had to readjust our direction again cos we were doing zig-zagging! Gosh. When we finally finished, we were really wondering how we managed to get it all done. But we were in the lead! Wow!

After the kayaking component, there was this brief Red Bull advertisement and we were given some Red Bull (the silver/blue ones) to drink and try! Not bad, I felt...but it was not to be so as I felt the urge to burp but I couldn't do so while running...and the mouth was already super dry! Shucks. Plus the slight thigh strain, we ended up walking a bit in front of the Concourse en route to the DHL balloon in Bugis, where we played Pharaoh's Shift at the open field. It was a game where we had to move a (heavy) load from point A to B using rollers, and it was up to the Engineer-wannabes to do it! We managed to do well after some trial and error initially, and the last part of changing the direction of the load was pure brute force! I was already heck-caring and since the load was on rollers and we couldn't touch the plank, I just pulled the load and did a 180 deg turn on the rollers. It worked. Whew.

Next we made our way to the nearby Shaw Towers where we did abseiling. Luckily we managed to find another way up to level 6, and we quickly cleared the cargo net. By then another JC team had caught up, but we were still in the lead. The abseiling was rather fun! With gloves, it was easy to let go the ropes and let yourself 'fly' for a longer distance!

The last stretch back was met with a lot of vehicles which apparently were going for the IT Fair at Suntec. We managed to keep a steady pace and reached NYP. Nianjia and I saw these 2 organisers walking nonchalantly across the pathway, and they were shocked to see us coming back! It was quite funny, and suddenly the music there stopped and we were welcomed back by the emcee for coming back first. It was such a sweet feeling.

So as we walked around to rest and recover, the other teams trickled in, with the Innova JC team coming in right after us, and followed by a couple more JC teams, then a Varsity team, and some more JC teams. I was wondering if the JC teams were actually more fit than the Varsity teams. lol.

And we waited for roughly 1.5 hours before deciding to answer our hungry stomachs, and headed for the food court at Cineleisure. Sure looks weird in all the muddy tees! After waiting for about an hour or so for the prize presentations, the final result was announced...and...we're the winners of the Varsity Category! Woohoo! Mans...IT was THAT lucky. And the prizes this time round was really great. Gosh. Maybe I should list some here:

Swatch Watch
Cobian sandals
Teva Sandals (who needs?)
New Zealand Natural Ice-cream voucher for a take home tub (!!!!)
Millet Bag (w/ a lotta more stuff inside!)
Nivea Men products (loads of it...who uses them?)
And the list goes on...

I'm now feeling the 'heat' from the entire event. Gosh. Need some air-con...DESPERATELY. Ice cream sounds good, but it adds to the fat instead. Sighs.

Anyway, one last parting word before I leave you with some pictures (as always)...Nianjia said that he's gonna shave his head, while I'm going to leave long hair, IF we win the race. So...I'm just gonna see a shaven NJ soon... *laughs wickedly*

I can't believe we actually betted on that. lol

Before we set off...Bing Ying, Me, Cindy, Nian Jia!

NUS Open House!

Ookie...Open house day 1 came went by me. So fast sia...and I could not do a status report from inside the MPSH 5 'cos there was NO CONNECTION! Damnit. Super dulan la.

But other than spilling out expletives here, I must say that being the first time doing an Open House (yes the previous time I was down with Chicken Pox), it was an eye-opener. People who came for the OH were from different levels - JC 2 kids, NSFs, students applying for university (yea this is the group we're looking out for!) - but we also see Sec 4 kids (wtf?!) and students with their parents! Hmms...well dealing with the latter was so much easier...Haha.

Met all different types of people today, some were nice and listened to your talk despite the heavy metal music from the stage and blasting of radio by the RadioPulze people, while others asked questions and we were able to give them some thoughts and an occasional description of where we had actually traveled before. Experience on treks do count :)

Of course, there were those who were stuck up and ignored your flyers, or look at you incredulously as though you're an alien from outer space. Oh mans, spare me the agony of talking by saying that you're not interested, or be nicer. Yea. That's what happened to some of us.

But overall the turn out was pretty good despite the apparent 1-day Open House NTU is doing. Managed to get a decent number of people who placed their names down for our FOC mailing list, so it's good for us! Good start to the Open House!

Moreover, we also got queries regarding our diving trips and trekking trips, and I think that's good despite our focus for the OH - to gather more people interested in our FOC. One small step at a time...

After packing up with Geoks and Hwibee, we went for dinner at Clementi's Botak Jones! Din know where BJ was, and HB brought the 2 of us there. While the 2 girls tried out the Double Botak, I tried their Fish n Chips and it was great! Hmms...nice food, but it seemed too big a portion for a person...gotta share it! The fish was tasty and smooth, and the chips were slightly spicy, nice!

Saw Jiaxing and Elaine at BJ too! What a coincidence! The Tiny-Sandking combo which I always kenna. lol.

Gonna rest for tomorrow's X-Physique! Nites!

Falling apart.

And gluing back the pieces together.
And falling apart again.
And gluing them back again.

Do the gluing work? Hmms...are bonds treasured even though you've laughed and smiled and did things silly? Are they of value even in the slightest of quarrels?

I guess not.

But anyway, we've to move on. Come back to earth.

While deep in thought, I'm busy uploading pictures to the new Rovers webbie! Ah Mu has done a great job in doing up the image mapping, and hopefully we can build from there and you guys can enjoy the new site with more pictures and info! Weiguang is also doing the same thing as me...so we can crap...while he...uhh...eats his udon *roll eyes*

And here I am, in the middle of the night, reading anime online (Naruto!) and awaiting the downloading of my precious Naruto anime...and the weekend is filled with Open House (gosh! Come and have a look!) and X-Physique with Bing Ying, Cindy and Nian Jia on Sunday!

This is gonna be a helluva of a weekend...lol!

I hate Udon (Part 2)

Nice scare for the start of the day...to ask us to go for a viva when he has already done one. Phew, luckily we clarified the matter with him before we made our minds to go (or not?).

And he threw another stunt yesterday. No notes available.

I was online at 2230hrs and spoke to Zhansheng to check whether was it me, or was there REALLY no notes.

No notes...so I waited for another hour or so (while doing something else DOTA) and talking crap online.

And finally...still no notes! That's super crap. I was particularly pissed, so I just decided to do my project, forget about going to school the next day for his lecture, and see how it goes.

And apparently, my decision THIS TIME was correct. His lecture lasted an hour or so. His notes were only given to the year rep to photostat only yesterday. So the people who went for his lecture were sitting there (like fools) without notes, and needing to do another webcast to hear what he said again.

What a waste of time! And twice in a row!

If someone there actually fell for the 'trap' twice, he/she oughta be aggrieved. It's really being evil for the lecturer not to provide notes (yea you can dun upload it, but at least print for the class? Like what my nice GEK1022 lecturer does whenever he uploads the files late), and furthermore, to shorten the 3 hour lecture to just an hour long. What does it tell you about him as a lecturer, and to the students who had to wake up early in the morning to attend his 9am lecture?! Geez.

I totally give up on him mans...

I hate Udon

Yea. I hate my lecturer (I shall not say his name out loud here, so I'll use a pseudonym 'Uddin') for making me have a wasted trip down to school on a sleepy rainy morning for only 10 minutes of pathetic lectures.

Woke up after a 4 hours sleep (or nap???) and went to school. Bus was fast, and I reached school in half an hour on board a barely filled 151. Good start to the day, I smiled to myself.

The rain had continued since yesterday, and it was still drizzling. Took a slight detour to the LT instead of the normal short-cut I use when it's not raining. The lecture theatre was barely filled when I entered. And I thought, maybe I was late, or maybe I had gone to the wrong LT?

I wasn't wrong.

The LT managed to fill up to barely 25% of its capacity and Mr 'Udon' Uddin promptly started the lecture (which, btw, was webcasted). But hey, there's less than 25% of the whole class there, and it was raining, but he seemed pretty fine with it.

So there we were, sitting there like fools while he went through the slides from the previous lecture. And he did say that he's not starting the next chapter till the next week.

I went "WTF?!?!" to Jialiang and Daryl, who were next to me. It's a super waste of time, and he had 2 hours to finish 4 slides???

I can't believe that he made people go down to listen to his oh-I'm-so-handsome-but-super-boring lecture early in the sleepy (and rainy) morning) for only 4 slides!

Why didn't he start a new chapter when he has a 3 hour lecture?!?!?

Maybe, in doing so, he can get his early day off, have an early break/longer lunch hour (maybe can go out with fellow zuo-bo-ers to eat) and then end off with a quick tutorial at 2pm. Wow! End of day!

And how much did I pay my school fees for such a lecturer? He doesn't even deserve his pay...and if I'm paying for HIM to do HIS research here then it's a f**king waste of students money, cos we paid $$$ for him to TEACH us, not to do his pathetic RESEARCH.

And apparently this is not the first of Udon's misadventures. There are reports of him not showing up for viva for labs, and emailing the groups he was supposed to viva in the morning and asking them to go to his office on that very evening the email was sent out for a make-up viva. WHAT THE F**K? It's plain lazy and how could you (1)have a make-up viva when it is not done in the lab and you did not even inform the students that you could not see them on the lab day itself, (2)assume that people have their email on 24/7 and expect them to be free any time you want them to be?

Not to forget...his misadventures during our test, as well as a senior lecture in which he just went home w/o telling the class, making them wait. Well, the latter was overheard.

But this is really pathetic. I'm just hoping that I can get by this module, get a good grade like a B+, and f**k off this lecturer. I hate Udon and Udon's on my black-list (pun intended).

What a great way to start the day. And I wasted my time. I'm seething with anger now.

After-note: Managed to reach home by 11, so I'm still ok in terms of handling tomorrow's test. Got time to revise now. Haha.

After-After-note: I seldom get angry...so this time I'm super pissed. Yea. I hate him. And maybe another Seow Kok Siong v1.1. Yea. Look out for more if he really evolves into one.
